Celebrate human rights by participating in the first ever fully accessibility provincial government budget consultation!

Sep 25, 2017

How would you raise and spend $15+ billion next year?

That's the question our provincial government needs to answer as it prepares next year's budget. And the government is asking for your advice and input.

While the public is invited to give advice every year, this is the first time ever that the Minister of Finance is ensuring that all Manitobans with disabilities have the opportunity to express their views and opinions.

Make sure your voice and voices from our disability communities, many excluded up until now, are heard!

This an important, albeit long overdue, step toward toward full citizenship for all of the nearly 200,000 Manitobans with disabilities. This is now also a requirement of overall provincial government operations. That includes all public meetings and consultations.

Please help mark and celebrate the first ever fully accessible provincial government budget consultation by sharing your views.

You can participate in one of three ways:

1. Complete a Survey
Complete the online survey at:
You can request the survey in an alternative format by emailing or by calling 204-945-5343

2. Attend a Community Meeting
Community meetings will be scheduled across the province over the next short while. The only one currently scheduled is for:

    Wednesday October 11
    7:00 PM to 9:00 pm
    Legislative Building
    Golden Boy Dining Room

Please join us at this first public session. We understand that this is an accessible location (we assume that the locations for future public meetings will be too). We also assume that the room will be set up to provide for accessibility seating.

If you require any communication accommodations to participate, you are asked to request these in advance by emailing or by calling 204-945-5343

3. Submit Your Comments by Email
You can send in your advice by email to

We invite you to review other background info and updated announcements on the budget consultation at:

And if you encounter any accessibility issues, please share your concerns by emailing or by calling 204-945-5343.

This big step forward was taken to comply with the requirements of the landmark Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA), most specifically the Customer Service Standard.

Barrier-Free Manitoba thanks the thousands of Manitobans who helped secure passage of the AMA in 2013 and who now support our work to ensure its full and timely implementation.

We also acknowledge the work underway by government, many public sector organizations and others to meet or exceed their responsibilities under the Act.
